Why explore connective intelligence in service design?
Connective intelligence is the backbone of Visual Connexion, my R&D project in innovative service design. It helps designers understand the hidden processes behind perception, focus, and meaning in order to enhance user experience.
Imagination—the spark of design thinking—filters everything we perceive into a mental “room,” interpreting our world. This mental space shapes our reality, offering a sense of security but also risking cognitive overload when thoughts accumulate without clarity.
The mind, energy, and meaning: a system to decode
Imagine the mind like a computer. Running too many processes—text editing, video rendering, or analysis—slows performance. Focusing too hard on one task drains cognitive energy and diminishes peripheral awareness.
The service design research behind Visual Connexion acknowledges this: our brain, producing just 25–30 watts, needs periodic reset to sustain performance. Energy fuels us, while our perceived reality is a complex system—shaped by our thoughts, our surroundings, and the people around us.
Like fish unaware of water, we live inside environments we rarely notice. We build internal "aquariums"—interpretative realities—that we mistake for truth. Visual Connexion decodes how the brain constructs meaning, revealing mental shortcuts and illusions that distort decision-making.
From perception to decision: a model for action
Perception triggers emotion, and emotion drives action. Our instincts guide us, pushing us toward goals, but they can become unreliable in today's complex world. Daily decisions become overwhelming, and without clarity, we lose time, money, and direction.
Visual Connexion is an innovative service design framework that addresses this paradox. Born from a blend of cognitive psychology and systems thinking, it helps designers streamline decisions for business and life.
It’s fast, cost-effective, and human. By simplifying the path from input to outcome, Visual Connexion improves user journeys and strategic planning.
Designing with clarity in a changing world
In a constantly shifting environment, clarity is everything. Visual Connexion gives service designers a tool to work with the mind, not against it—following natural flows of logic and emotion.
It reveals how many problems are not real—they’re distortions caused by overwhelmed minds. Through design, we can dissolve these illusions and build practical, resonant solutions.
This R&D project proves that when we understand perception, we can transform decisions—leading to better outcomes for individuals, teams, and organizations.
